Throwback Thursday: Shel Silverstein

Throwback Thursday: Shel Silverstein

I’m not usually a fan of Throwback Thursday, but I thought today was a perfect day for it. I stumbled across an old poem by Shel Silverstein and all of these childhood memories came back to me.

For those of you who don’t know, Shel Silverstein was an American poet who did many things, but was particularly known for his popular children’s books. Ever heard of “The Giving Tree”? It’s about a willow tree and a little boys relationship and how it changes over the years. It’s probably one of his most popular children’s books.

My favorite from Shel Silverstein had to have been his poem books. “Where The Sidewalk Ends” is probably my favorite. It’s filled with children’s poetry and illustrations, all done by Silverstein. The poems are quirky and all have funny illustrations to go with them. It’s such a unique book as well; a very plain cover and no colors within the book, but it works.

If you haven’t read any of these poems you should try to googling them. He really is a wonderful poet!
