Music – The Mood Alterer
I’m someone that works from home, which can be great at times, but can also be pretty boring. You don’t get any social interaction with anyone in person. My social interaction is all through emails and Skype conversations. Needless to say, I need to keep myself entertained in some sort of way. I try not to watch TV, it gets way to distracting and most of the time it’s just background noise for me. Aka I’m not watching it, so why do I even have the TV on?
My only great option is music. Now, I have my phases with music. I get in these moods where I just want to find new great music, and sometimes I get in moods where I just have no patience to try and find new music. I will admit, I probably like a few songs that are popular at the moment by those popular artists, but I absolutely love finding music by artists that aren’t too well-known. It gives you this feeling that you discovered this artist or band firsthand. Oh come on, you know what I mean. You play that song and a friend asks, “Who is this?” and you say something like “You’ve never heard of this band? I love them they are great!” When realistically, you probably discovered them a week before and have been listening to them nonstop. Ok, maybe that’s just me, but at least I admit it!
I’m not musically talented whatsoever, but I’ve discovered recently that music really helps get me through the day. Not only that, but there are SO many different artists and listening to a certain genre can help alter your mood. If I’m feeling the least bit crappy, I try to listen to something a bit more upbeat. Not over the top, but something to help boost my mood like an oldie singalong. Sure, I look like an idiot and I’m glad no one is home to hear my terrible singing voice, but it helps put me in a better mood. It helps pass the time while I work and I have the luxury of having time to discover some new music.
My current phase with music: Oldies such as Creedence Clearwater and Lynyrd Skynyrd. There’s something about the sun that puts me in an oldies mood!
