CVS to Stop Selling Tobacco
CVS announced today that it will stop carrying tobacco products effective October 1. They believe the idea of selling dangerous products is contradictory to their image of a health care facility that provides medicines and health advice to their customers.
CVS already does not sell e-cigarettes which do not contain tobacco, because they are not regulated by the FDA. According to The New York Times, 18% of adults smoke although the decline has stagnated.
With the FDA announcing that they will start a national education program that will deter children from smoking on Tuesday, the Obama administration said that CVS is setting a “powerful example.”
